25 Love Sonnets
by A. S. Maulucci

Your radiance struck me hard, your eyes held me.
Before I took in the details of your nose and lips,
you were all hair and eyes to me with some
shapely limbs below, a figure that moved
to a rhythm I had never heard till then.
All at once I was caught up in a dance
or more like a dream of dancing
as we flowed in and out of one another
like two rivers rising up to shake the samba
out of the earth and mountains with the sun
pounding on them like conga drums while the trees
in a chorus line clapped and swayed in time
as we surged on in our ravaging driving
beat down to the delta lands and back again.
